How Do I Filter a Virtuous BI Report?

One of the benefits of Virtuous BI is having Virtuous BI Best Practice Reports available out of the box. Better yet, you can filter them the way you can filter other team members' custom-made reports. So, let's dig into how that works.

Navigating to Virtuous BI Standard Reports

To get started, go to Reports > Virtuous BI.

Once on the BI Page you’ll see several BI Best Practice reports. Pick the one you want to work with (for this example, we’ll be working from the Campaigns and Segments BI report) and select it.

Whole Dashboard Filters

At the top of the BI Best Practice Report you’ve chosen, you’ll see a set of filters. If you’ve ever used a spreadsheet filter, they should look very similar! 

Depending on the Dashboard that you’re working on, you’ll have a data field or a date field you can filter on in the Report. 

For data fields:

You can choose to select all, some, or none of the fields available to you. 

For Date Fields:

You have two options, the first is defining the amount of time on which this Report is based. Then, based on the parameters in the first part you can select the actual dates

Filtering Visualizations

In addition to filtering the Dashboard (or Report Page) overall, some of your Visualizations have the ability to filter within that portion of the Dashboard. You’ll know that section can be filtered when you hover over the Visualization and a filter image appears.

Some Visualizations only have 1 filter while others may have several. You can turn off any filter by toggling off the blue button on that parameter or change the filters to better suit your definitions.

Bookmarking a Filter

There may be filters that you create and want to view regularly or repeatedly. For example, you may be using a Virtuous BI Best Practice report but you’d prefer to hone in on Fiscal Year data. Whenever you set a filter for a report, you’re able to save the filter as a Bookmark–this will allow you to quickly filter the report without having to configure all the parts of your filter over and over.

To create a Bookmark, first configure your filter of a BI Report using the steps above. At the bottom right of your screen, you’ll find a Bookmark icon. When you select this, you’ll be given some options: Save (your filter) as a new bookmark or Manage Bookmarks

Saving this filter as a new bookmark will prompt you to name it and optionally set it as the default to automatically filter this report.

Once saved, you’ll be able to edit this new Bookmark and any additional ones by selecting Manage Bookmarks. Select the 3 Dots next to your Bookmark to remove it as the default, edit the name, or delete altogether.

The Explorations tab under Manage Bookmarks will display the version history of all filter changes and updates in case you need to revert to a previous filter.
