In Virtuous Marketing, managing Subscription Preferences for email recipients is an important part of ensuring your Marketing emails are successfully delivered and you respect the preferences of a recipient. Depending on which exact link a recipient selects, the experience and outcome will be slightly different. Regardless of which experience you use, there will always be a 2-step requirement to confirm the subscription updates.
Note: The one-step unsubscribe options available in the respective Google and Yahoo email management apps are still functional to respect email sender guidelines. The 2-step unsubscribe feature delivered through the Subscription Preferences page functions beyond from the Google and Yahoo requirements.
When building an email in Virtuous you have a few different options to include for recipients to manage their subscription preferences. These options include "Global Unsubscribe", "Group Unsubscribe" and "Subscription Preferences". To access these links, select "Special links" in the text toolbar, pictured below. This article outlines how each link behaves and what an email subscriber can expect.
Note: If none of the Subscription preferences are selected, the default of “Global Unsubscribe” will be automatically be included in the final email delivered.

Global Unsubscribe
If an email recipient selects the "Global Unsubscribe" option, this will take the recipient to a new window. Here, they can manage their subscription preferences. The option "Unsubscribe From All Communications" will be defaulted to "Yes". If the recipient is subscribed to other Default Email Lists, these will display and be defaulted to "No".
Note: these options are not hardcoded and the recipient can still make a modification to their preferences before confirming.
Next, the recipient must enter their Email Address to confirm before moving forward. After the recipient has entered their Email Address and selected "Save Preferences", they will then have a confirmation message displayed. You'll notice they will have an option to Resubscribe, if they have made a mistake.
In Virtuous, this Individual is now Globally Unsubscribed, meaning they do not want to receive ANY communications from your organization.
Group Unsubscribe
If an email recipient selects the "Group Unsubscribe" option, this will take the recipient to a new window. The option for the specific list they are Unsubscribing from will be defaulted to "No". In the example below, "Fancy Mailing List" has been defaulted to "No" as the specific Email List being unsubscribed from.
Note: these options are not hardcoded and the recipient can still make a modification to their preferences before confirming.
Just as with the Global Unsubscribe option, the recipient will need to enter their email address to confirm the changes before selecting "Save Preferences". And again, the email subscriber will have a confirmation displayed on screen.
Subscription Preferences
If an email recipient selects the "Subscription Preferences" link, this will take them to the same Subscription Preferences page referenced in the previous two example. Each list the recipient is already subscribed to will be defaulted to "Yes". Here, they can opt out of any Email Lists they no longer wish to receive.
Note: This will only display Email Lists the recipient is already subscribed to.
Should any changes need to be made, the email recipient will need to enter their Email Address and select "Save Preferences" to confirm all changes.
