Beginning in 2025, your Virtuous Software invoice may include sales tax where applicable, based on your organization’s billing address.
Sales tax on Software as a Service (SaaS) depends on the tax laws of each state or county. Many jurisdictions now consider SaaS and related services as taxable items, which means Virtuous is required to apply sales tax where it's legally mandated. Virtuous does not retain any portion of these taxes; all collected taxes are remitted to the appropriate state tax authority.
Below, find answers to some commonly asked questions regarding sales tax on your Virtuous invoice.
My organization doesn’t pay sales tax on our other SaaS tools; why is Virtuous charging me?
Different companies may have different tax obligations based on their business locations and economic nexus. Virtuous Software, Inc. is required to collect sales tax on our products and services in certain jurisdictions due to our presence there.
What if I am exempt from sales tax in my state?
If your organization qualifies for tax exemption, please send a valid exemption certificate issued by your state or county to AR@virtuous.org. Upon successful verification of your exemption certificate, our Finance team will not apply sales tax to your invoices.
What if my address is wrong?
If your organization’s billing address is incorrect, please reach out to AR@virtuous.org and let us know as soon as possible. We will update the billing address on your account, as this may affect the sales tax applied to your invoice.
Am I responsible for sales tax on prior invoices?
We will not retroactively apply or collect sales tax on invoices issued prior to May 2025. However, you are possibly obligated to pay use tax on those invoices. Please check directly with your state and local tax offices or tax experts.
