How is Currency Conversion Calculated?
Virtuous CRM+ will automatically convert the Gift Amount based on the exchange rate that matches the Gift Date for any Gift that is not in your organization's Base Currency. You have the ability to set the currency on any Gift when manually entering a Gift, importing Gifts, or via the API.
Important Notes
- “Base Currency” refers to the currency set as your database’s default currency. This can be located in Organization Settings. The Base Currency cannot be modified once set. To learn more about Organization Settings, check out this Support Article.
- Gifts will always settle in the Base Currency.
- Receipts will be generated with the original Currency and Amount displayed, not the converted amount.
- Giving Forms will always display in the Base Currency of your database.
Reviewing a Gift in the Gift and Contact Import Tool
When a Gift with a different currency than your Base Currency comes through the Gift and Contact Import Tool, it will display as the original Gift Amount, including the Currency Symbol and the Currency Code.
The Converted Amount will be available once the Import is completed.
Reviewing a Gift on a Contact Record
When reviewing a single Gift on a Contact record, the original Gift Amount is displayed with a dotted underline, its Currency Code, and its Currency Symbol.
To see Gift Amount converted to your Base Currency, hover over the underlined Gift Amount.
Reviewing All Gifts
When reviewing a selection of Gifts anywhere outside a Contact record, like a list of Gifts from a Filter or a Query, the Gift Amount will display in your Base Currency with the same dotted underline to signify this is a converted amount. Hover over the Gift Amount to display the original Gift Amount and Currency Code.
The fields Currency Code and Converted Amount are available for Gift Filters and Queries.
Editing a Converted Gift
When reviewing the detailed information for a Gift, both the original currency’s Gift Amount and Converted Amount will be displayed. The Converted Amount is unable to be modified itself. However, editing the original currency’s Gift Amount will update the Converted Amount after you save your changes.
