Planning and executing a Ticketed Event in Virtuous has a few moving parts. There may be instances where you want to reduce the cost of a Ticket for an attendee. After you’ve created your Ticketed Event and different Ticket options, you can then create Registration Codes.

Creating a New Registration Code
To create a new Registration Code
- Navigate to the specific Ticketed Event
- Select the “Registrations” tab along the top of the screen
- Select the blue plus sign to the right of “Registration Codes”
Note: The Ticketed Event must be created before you can create a new Registration Code.
You’ll notice there are two general categories available when creating a new Registration Code: “Free Registration” and “Ticket Discount.” While both serve to reduce or eliminate the cost of a Ticket, each Type functions differently. Both types are outlined below with examples to illustrate when and how each should be used.
Free Registration Code
Creating a “Free Registration” Code will yield a Code that reduces the full cost of a Ticket and allows the attendee to bypass the payment step.
- Enter a Name for your Registration Code.
- Max Amount Allowed - The maximum Ticket purchase price that will be reduced to zero.
- Recipient Email Address - The email address to send the Registration Code to. This is not a required field if you plan to copy and paste the unique URL to share.
- Expires On - The date the Registration Code will expire.
After you have entered all the appropriate information, select “Create Code” to save your Registration Code.
To use a Free Registration Code, the attendee will follow the unique URL either emailed or shared another way. This will allow them to bypass the payments portion of the registration process.
Ticket Discount Registration Code
The second type of Registration Code available is a “Ticket Discount.” Instead of sending an email with a unique link, you can opt to create a Discount Code that an attendee can use while registering to reduce the cost of the Ticket.
Percentage Discount Registration Code
A Percentage Discount Registration Code will yield a Code that will reduce the Ticket cost by a set percentage. For example, if an attendee purchases a $100 Ticket and uses a Percentage Discount Registration Code for 40%, the cost will be reduced to $60. If a different attendee purchases a $200 Ticket and uses the same Percentage Discount Registration Code, the cost will be reduced to $120.
Set Amount Discount Registration Code
A Set Amount Discount Registration Code functions differently as there is no dynamic element. The dollar amount set will apply to all Ticket types in the same fashion. For example, if an attendee purchases a $100 Ticket and uses a Set Amount Discount Registration Code for $30, the cost will be reduced to $70. If a different attendee purchases a $200 Ticket and uses the same Percentage Discount Registration Code, the cost will be reduced to $170.
After entering either your percentage discount or set amount discount details, you can then enter the additional details to tailor your Registration Code.
- Exempt - Select any Ticket types that are not eligible to receive the discount. This field is optional.
- Maximum Discount Uses - Enter a number of maximum times the specific discount code can be used. Once the number of uses reaches the limit, the Discount Code will no longer be valid. This is an optional field.
- Expires On - The date the Discount Code will no longer be valid.
After entering the appropriate details for your new Registration Code, select “Create Code” to complete the creation process.
To use a Ticket Discount Code, the attendee will enter the Code while completing the Registration Form.
